Press Release:

Seattle - Seattle University presents Screen Shots – a reflection on the changing shape of contemporary art. Through a range of technologies – including computer-generated algorithms, digital video and audio, and projection – Screen Shots explores the relationship between mass media, new media, and artistic production.

The term “screenshot,” which technically refers to the capture of an image on a computer monitor, also serves to highlight a formal aspect of the work in this show, as each artist challenges the physicality and integrity of the screen itself. The digital work of Screen Shots’ three artists – Justin Beckman, James Coupe, and Tivon Rice – exemplifies the progressive ways artists in this region are (re-)appropriating technology.
